Since the article mentions one attendees concerns about the bill and research, it is worth noting that this bill restructures the Demonstration State Forest system to prioritize research. Claims that this bill will somehow threaten research are just misinformed. It clearly states in the language of the bill that research will be moved from its current secondary status to a priority of the Demonstration State Forest System. This is normally mentioned when listing the bills new priorities since it is a key component of the bill.

Given the demise of cannabis and the precipitous drop in grape prices it is important to our beleaguered economy to protect any industry remaining.

From an environmental perspective, houses need to be built so logs will be cut . . . somewhere. It seems to me that forestry management here is likely better than anywhere else in the world.

If this passes, we will report on how it affects the local timber industry. I spent a few years in marketing in between journalism stints. What I see here is an opportunity to sell to buyers who care about sustainability.
