I agree with Roberts comments under the heading 'Acknowledging public reaction' “There are few things in this country that make people angrier than eminent domain”. I do feel sorry for the landowner that is fighting for his land and that he can no longer afford to fight the railway or develop the property as was his intention.
I'm sorry this is much like a Monty Python episode.
Reality is that the only freight hauled is so Pinole can maintain the illusion of actually operating a qualified railroad while in effect working to enrich himself at the expense of those he uses eminent domain to grab their properties at unrealistically below market values.
His initial comment on Owning a private railroad was to the effect of "and I can just take a property when I want it - what a great deal".
That our government bodies and lawyers have allowed him to keep up this pretense is very much symptomatic about what is wrong with our entire government these days basically prioritizing the filthy rich over average American citizens.
