I went to school with Aly, I did cheer with her since middle school. She was the sweetest girl, gave so many compliments to everyone. Found the good in people. She was THAT girl. She was the girl that everyone wanted to be friends with. This article is UNNECESSARY and heartless. She is not here to defend herself. You can make an article to spread fentanyl awareness WITHOUT using her name. You even made an article about Roy Mora.. another minor.. what’s wrong with you?! If a family member or a really good friend of yours passed away and someone decided to make an article about it without your consent. Especially if it didn’t make your friend or family look good. You would be pissed. In RESPECT for Alys family and friends, delete this unnecessary article. Do better.

aly is one of my closest friends and one of the most incredible people i have ever had the pleasure of meeting. every person that has interacted with her has been blown away by her kindness, enthusiasm, and positivity. she’s been involved in many corners of our small community, through participation in cheer, clubs, and volunteer work. her kindness and commitment to our community is unparalleled, especially during a time of extreme apathy from people our age. while i believe it is important to report on local news, there was a better way to go about this. many of the details provided in this article are grossly personal and incredibly distasteful to share, especially considering she was a minor at the time. i implore you to consider how this article would make you feel had it been written about your child, sister, or friend. furthermore, aly is so much more than her death. her many accolades demonstrate her commitment to making our world a better place, and i wish that you took the opportunity highlight the many positive impacts she made within our community. when aly passed, we lost a beautiful soul and a wonderful community member. while it is important to spread awareness about the fentanyl crisis in mendocino county, this article would have had the same effect if you preserved her identity and did not publish her name. not only does it cause unnecessary harm to the many people that love her so dearly, i felt the inclusion of her name and intimate details surrounding the night she passed away incredibly unnecessary, especially considering she was a minor at the time. in the future, i hope you make more conscious choices in reporting on sensitive stories.
