Feliz Fire Holding Steady at 841 Acres
U.S. 101 Fully Reopens

More than 400 firefighters from across Mendocino County and the state converged on the Hopland area Saturday night to contain an explosively spreading wildfire.
By Sunday morning, their efforts had paid off.
Sherri Wise, a spokesperson for CAL FIRE, said the fire, which started near the 3600 block of Feliz Creek Road on Saturday afternoon, remained at 841 acres with no additional growth.
“We have not had any reports of damaged structures at this time,” Wise said.
Wise estimated that about 500 people remain under evacuation orders.
She said the fire’s rapid spread was driven by spot fires, with wind-blown embers igniting new fires ahead of the main blaze. Firefighters were dispersed throughout the area overnight, extinguishing those hot spots to prevent further spread.
