The "Timber Fire" Outside Covelo Reaches Twenty Acres
A fast-moving fire on a wooded slope south of Covelo has drawn a large response

A wildfire burning on a wooded slope southwest of Covelo has grown to 20 acres, according to a CAL FIRE spokesperson. The blaze has been named the Timber Fire.
Several dozen firefighters have responded or are en route, including personnel from CalGuard and wildland fire crews based at the California Conservation Corps Mendocino Center in Willits.
The fire was first registered by wildfire detection cameras and is visible on the Anthony Peak Lookout 2 camera. It located near Eel River Ranch Road and Judge Webber Lane.
An air attack plane is coordinating a response that includes three air tankers and a helicopter, with a second helicopter en route. Dispatched ground resources include three bulldozers, two water tenders and nine fire engines.
The fire is currently 0% contained. No evacuation orders have been issued.
Sherri Wise, the CAL FIRE spokesperson, said the fire does involve some structures, but that the risk to additional structures is low due to the remote location.
