Leggett Man Arrested After Alleged BB Gun Assault on Younger Brother
Bail set at $30,000
A 25-year-old Leggett man was arrested Sunday following a family argument in which he allegedly shot his younger brother multiple times with a CO2-powered BB gun.
The incident was reported around 7 p.m. at a residence in the 68000 block of North Highway 101 near Leggett, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
Mendocino County sheriff’s deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol responded. Brodie Cardoza, 25, of Leggett was identified as the suspect and arrested. Investigators recovered a black CO2 BB handgun they say was used in the assault.
The 18-year-old victim suffered three red, swollen abrasions to his abdomen. He was treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Authorities said the BBs did not appear to have penetrated his skin.
Cardoza was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm and booked into the Mendocino County Jail. Bail was set at $30,000.
Editor’s note: An arrest is an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
