The following information comes from a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office
A man was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder after authorities say he shot at a 68-year-old man in rural Mendocino County, grazing the victim’s head before fleeing into a wooded area.
Mendocino County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around noon to the 11700 block of Branscomb Road after receiving a report of shots fired, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The caller reported that Brandon Lee Langenderfer, 32, had fired at the victim and then fled the scene.
Medical personnel treated the victim at the scene for what authorities described as a superficial wound. Deputies have launched an attempted murder investigation.
Investigators said Langenderfer approached the victim while the man was outside his residence, produced a firearm and discharged it in his direction. The victim ran for safety as the suspect fled on foot into nearby woods.
At about 4 p.m., a CAL FIRE prevention law enforcement officer spotted the vehicle in the 6900 block of Branscomb Road. Deputies responded, secured the area and called for Langenderfer to surrender, authorities said.
Using an unmanned aerial vehicle and ground search teams, deputies found Langenderfer hiding in brush along with Miranda Marie Mullins, 31, of Willits. Both were detained without injury.
Langenderfer was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance with prior convictions, violation of parole, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and on a felony parole warrant. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail and is being held without bail due to the parole violations.
Mullins was arrested on suspicion of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and on an out-of-state warrant. She was also booked into the county jail and is also being held without bail, authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center at 707-463-4086 or the sheriff’s non-emergency tip line at 707-234-2100.
