Covelo Man Awaiting Trial Arrested on Robbery and Burglary Charges
Raymond Bowes is scheduled for trial on June 8 on unrelated charges
A 28-year-old man from Covelo was arrested Friday following an early morning incident initially reported as a possible kidnapping, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 2:43 a.m. on April 17 to a residence in the 76000 block of Henderson Lane after a caller reported that a woman had been forcibly taken from the home.
When deputies arrived, they determined the reporting party had not personally witnessed the incidence. As the investigation continued, deputies contacted a 27-year-old Covelo man who was identified as the victim of an assault.
According to authorities, the victim reported that Raymond Bowes entered his residence, physically assaulted him, and stole personal property. A 21-year-old woman who had been inside the home left the residence with Bowes.
Deputies observed that the male victim had injuries consistent with an assault and located evidence at the scene supporting his account.
Further investigation led deputies to locate the woman later that day at a residence on Biggar Lane. She told authorities the initial kidnapping report was inaccurate and said she had not been injured.
Bowes was also located at the residence. According to the sheriff’s office, he gave a statement that conflicted with witness accounts and evidence collected during the investigation. Deputies also noted that Bowes had injuries consistent with being the primary aggressor in a physical altercation.
Raymond Bowes has multiple charges pending, including one felony charge for driving the wrong way on a highway while evading a peace officer on June 24, 2025, resisting or obstructing an officer on November 9, 2025, and resisting or deterring an officer on February 22, 2026. A trial on these charges is scheduled for June 8, 2026.
Based on the findings, deputies arrested Bowes on suspicion of robbery, burglary, and committing a felony while released on bail in an unrelated case. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail and is being held on $125,000 bail.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at 707-463-4086 or submit an anonymous tip to 707-234-2100.
