An absolutely wonderful story Elise. Jeannie and Wayne and her dog are beloved by Linda, me, Brutus and now Caesar too. You picked a terrific person to help you tell this critically important story. I plan to share it up high.
I hope you obtained permission to quote the landlord and name her. This is a critical issue in our area absolutely and it is good to address it. But should not be gossip.
Dear Gale, first, thank you for being a subscriber. And yes, we did an on-the-record interview with Ann Gittings. It was important for the story to reflect her side, and before we published we reached out a second time. The relationship between the two women has grown quite acrimonious, as noted. We do not publish ad hominem attacks but we confirmed the facts, which Ann and Jeannie generally agreed on. We tried not to get into a she-said, she-said, but we did ask Ann for additional biographical detail that would have allowed us to paint a sympathetic portrait of both sides. Everyone has stories of grief and loss. Gittings did not want to participate in that. As you noted, this is a critical issue in our area, and this is just one story. The deterioration of the relationship between the women is a result of the pressure we are collectively putting on people to solve the housing problem at lowest level, rather than dealing with it as a community.

Such an important issue I am vulnerable as well. Thank you for covering.
