$20+ Million for Road Repairs in Mendocino County
Money targets Rockport, Leggett, and Ukiah
The California Transportation Commission last week approved more than $20 million in funding for highway repairs at three locations in Mendocino County, according to a state announcement.
The funding comes from Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and is intended to address damage and safety concerns caused by storms, erosion and ground movement. A total of $1.1 billion was allocated by the CTC.
In Mendocino, the largest allocation — about $16.5 million — will go toward emergency roadway repairs, drainage improvements and construction of a retaining wall on Highway 1 near Rockport.
An additional approximately $3.3 million has been approved for U.S. Highway 101 near Leggett, where crews will install ground-movement tracking devices, improve drainage and repair the roadway in an area prone to landslides.
A third allocation of about $500,000 will fund construction of a retaining wall, guardrail and pavement repairs, along with erosion control, on Route 253 near Ukiah.
State officials said the projects are part of a broader package of emergency transportation investments approved statewide to improve safety and protect critical infrastructure.
